0:23 “With Sonos history of rendering products obsolete” brah they supported those old speakers for 10 years. Which other company does this???? They support stuff for way longer than most companies.

JoystickJester

Those of you that are Costco members and really don't care about the voice assistance in the Arc. Costco has the Sonos Arc SL for $50 cheaper. So far it is not online but they do have them in store. It's the same Arc as the original Arc just without voice assistance. I have Alexa and Google Home throughout my home so having the voice assistant inside the Arc is not a deal breaker for me.

Holy boy!

I have a tv stand that I could put this on but it would be on a shelf underneath the tv. I wonder if the upward speakers are angled enough that the shelf above it wouldn't affect the sound if I placed it on the edge.

I would love to purchase this but the one hdmi port is not going to work for me

BankZa

The hdmi cable that comes with the Sonos arc, does it support earc or do I have to buy a 2.1 hdmi cable?

Moogoomoogoo

The best review I have seen.

Saurabh Gupta

Thank you for the great review!

Eugene Vautour

Sonos need to work on there application after doing an update everything on my Sonos system went down the drain so disappointed with the company. Was supposed to get the sonos arc + sub but with the problem after this application update will not happen.

Have you been paying attention to how poorly sonos has been treating its customers? The gall of this review (more like a sell-out ad). The product we have been waiting for? No… We are waiting for a functional app that doesn't make equipment we just bought obsolete. I now don't trust you and put you in the category of being complicit in sonos' fraud!

Until sonos starts acting reputable, you cannot possibly give any product they make a good review. They need to be punished mercilessly until they act ethically. Speakers are not something that should ever become obsolete! I know they will wear out eventually, but to make a perfectly good product unfunctional is deplorable. It is greedy, and it is an ecologically disastrous policy!

I bought it and I'm not happy. How is the sound quality? It's not as good as the previous generation Playbar by Sonos. Doesn't feel like an upgrade. The sound is distant and flat! I tried different inputs, blu ray discs, and players but the sound performance is horrible. Bass is definitely worse than the previous Sonos Playbar. I'm surprised Sonos would deliver a low quality sound product after more than 8 years of trying to top the Playbar. Very dissatisfied.

Rob Scherer

Should I hook this up directly to my tv or apple tv?

Wreckanize

This sounds awful

edit I forgot I'm listening through a MacBook Air.

Andrew Hughes

What's the centre channel mix like? The Playbar is pretty rubbish when it comes to speech unless you turn the enhancement on. Is this better than that?

Nice ad

We are very unhappy with our Sonos Bar. When it’s working the sound is good but the sound goes and leaves us with only the TV receivers sound regularly. We definitely wouldn’t have purchased this had we known how Unreliable it is. We do as advised in instructions on the internet, the sound returns but soon goes again. We are going to try and return this and try to get a full refund.

Careful what you wish for. Sonos has a bad habit of not supporting their legacy products, intentionally forcing them into obsolescence. Considering Sonos’ price points, it’s extremely disturbing to see Sonos products with limited usefulness over time. Obviously, if money is no object, buy by all means. But if your intention is to attempt a lifetime of usefulness out of a Sonos product, perhaps you should be looking elsewhere. As recently as January 2020, Sonos announced they have stopped supporting the following devices:
– Original Zone Players, Connect, and Connect:Amp (launched in 2006; includes versions sold until 2015)
– First-generation Play:5 (launched 2009)
– CR200 (launched 2009)
– Bridge (launched 2007)

I have a problem with my Boss SoundTouch 300 soundbar not turning on when I turn on my TV. Or my Sony TV will choose not to accept the Bose as an audio unit. So my TV will switch back to its internal speakers. Apparently it could be a compatibility issue which is weird since Bose is supposed to work with any TV. Apparently it doesn’t…Does anyone have this problem with Sonos Arc?

Tim Phillips

This crazy guy holds his iphone upside down. How can we trust him!?

Pablo Eskibar

glad i unsub from this trash channel a long time ago..how much did they pay u for this ad?

AnarchoHumanism

"Sonos history of discontinuing "deactivating via update" products" Say no more, this company is pure trash!

Jonathan Lopez Nieves

Hdmi 2.1 or 2.0??

THEG12EG

now the arc is how the playbar is still worth a look as they are on sale, at the lower price i still think its a great option

tramsgar

This "inch", is it like half a thumb? (or s tenth's penis?)

Great ad

Louis Dorato

No bluetooth support. I'll pass and continue enjoying my Nakamiche Shockwafe 9.2.4.

David Mander

Streaming from your inferior music app via WiFi to your Sonos soundbar with tiny little drivers…How backwards is that in 2020!! You'll never beat CDs on a decent system… Streaming sucks!!!! 😝😝

David Mander

Since when has Speakers only in the front given you an immersive experience?! 😂😂😂😂😂

David Mander

It is no good for a main room system… People use them for music and movies which is wrong!! Will only make TV sound better! Sonos is way overpriced for what you get. Who cares about alexia, apps etc… Bring back proper 'hi-fi'. Plugging the TV up to a decent old stereo will sound BETTER than that!

Andrew McCully

I love how Americans say 5 dot 0,

sparky vator

Aren't you going to talk about how it performs with Dolby Atmos enabled? Horrible review

InExcelsis9

What are the names of the songs playing in the background?

Colby Neal

So.. with regard to the new Sonos 2020 Arc Soundbar. The Soundbar offers 1 HDMI eArc input. No HDMI output.

My concern is that prior to 2020 almost NO TV offered eArc, which supports 27x the bandwidth (data transfer) than ARC. So my AppleTV 4K will now plug into my 2019 Vizio Quantum P series. The TV will then send COMPRESSED Dolby Atmos audio, a massive downgrade.

The question is. Does Netflix and/or Apple Movies, when offering Dolby Atmos offer it compressed or uncompressed?

…Prior, AppleTV 4K was plugged into my Sony HT-ST5000 7.1 Dolby Atmos bar directly. No compression. But the Soundbar does a horrible job acting at the HDMI video switch.

Sheesh. Torn. eArc and limited options with Sonos Arc Soundbar are forcing audiophiles to forcefully upgrade their tv to a 2020 eArc or you get chocked out with bandwidth restrictions by a 27 multiple!??

Saul Davis

One question – when I turn off my TV the white light on the front of the bar remains on.
I don’t see any off feature or know if it is off.
I have TV arc enabled etc, because I replaced my Bose sound bar for this one.
I set a sleep timer to 30 mins in the app.
Am I missing something? How do I know if it’s off and just not remaining on my entire life? lol

LeeTronix

Garbage not worth it, its a port hogger and after Sonos dumping on their customers I will never purchase any of their products again. Just a naff company non loyal company.

Bryan Adams

this isnt a review

billyboatman

Last year I got the beam, two speakers and the sub… Dammit. I want the arc.

TylerTron21

Try this music please. See if you can get the bar to distort. King creosote- Bats in the attic @ 1:43. Daft Punk – Loose yourself to music (almost all volume levels distort). Busta Rhymes – Put your hands where my eyes can see. Julian Convex – Intro. Matt Maeson – Put it on me. Just a few songs of many that will ruin this bar. EQ off, loudness off, true play on. Not wall mounted. Any volume above 40%.

YS Lee

HDMI2.1 or 2.0 ?

Nekminute

When Audio costs more than a 65" 4K OLED….

Martijn Jagers

Will the up-facing speakers also work with just DD5.1? Or will it just act as my current Playbar so I won’t notice a difference…?

Chris Lebron

Quarantine is really getting to Engadget
Their reviews are either ads for the product or complaining about the product

What is the name of the song played at the end?

Kripa Singh

IMO, if any soundbar that doesn't have additional HDMI IN to add other streaming devices then it's just waste of hard earned money even if it sounds great. Of course the next version will have the HDMI IN.

Justin Renauldo

DTS:X support?

Arch

If only Sonos had put as much energy into the new Sonos Five…

Mina Hanna

With all due respect for the review,,but the review is dull and bland. Also the white colour Sonos is really distracting. I prefer the black one as it blends in more with the setup

derick smith

So, do you have to have a TV with eARC to get the dolby atmos feature out of the sound bar? Are you losing quality without a TV that doesn't have eARC?
