How these Dynamic ads different from smart campaign?

I feel like a dog trying to learn the rules of golf. I'm a native English speaker but this rattles along at a rather rapid pace giving little chance for understanding the steps and the reasoning offering very poor assimilation. 
I guess the script was written by the very adwords knowledgable who don't recognise most here are adwords dummies. 
The assumption is we are all ever so adwords savvy – we're not, that'a why we are here!  
Poor teaching methodology. I'd give this 3 out of 10 (max) as a training video and I used to train people on technical equipment so I have some understanding of the hows & whys.

Enable Dynamic Search Ads is not an option just everything below it.

For dynamic search ad we don't have to do keyword research right?

Hello, I am stuck at the instructios shown at 3:21 where we select category "landing pages from your standard ad group".

on the page "Add Dynamic Ad Target" I see following message instead of seeing a list of categories.
"No categories are available for your website"

I am running a bigcommerce website.

would appreciate your help
